Long time computer industry and techie geek who got sick of traveling for business so did the obvious thing - wife & I bought a garden center in San Diego, CA (justly dubbed "America's Finest City). If you are ever in the market to do something as dumb as buy a small business (a garden center) - do so in San Diego County. Since winter in San Diego each year lasts from Dec. 26th to Dec. 27th (and then it is summer for the rest of theyear you have much more time to make MONEY. Ran the business for 14 years, cashed out and made my way back home (NoCal - but this time to the North Bay which is the antithesis of the Evil Empire East and South Bay(s) - notably the dark side known as Silicon Valley). Roamed the North Bay looking for our personal Eden to settle down in and found it in Yountville, CA - most noted as the home of the famed French Laundry restaurant. but now noted (appropriately so) as the home of Una & Dave. Once settled in we both decided it would be "fun" to take wine educator (e.g., wine peddler) jobs at premium wineries in the Napa Valley to take full advantage of our in depth wine knowledge (we knew where to buy wine and how to open the bottle). Suffice it to say that we are, at heart, sales folks we had little trouble getting up to speed on the wine lingo and some amount of acumen. Safer to say that we drew upon an old maxim pertaining to "..blind with brilliance or baffle with BS") we survived and thrived. For myself - forever the restless one - it is now time for the next challenge. And thus it begins.
